Thermal activation of exclusonic quasiparticles in the fractional quantum Hall effect

چکیده

Quasiparticles of the fractional quantum Hall systems obey fractional (including mutual) exclusion statistics. In this note we study the effects of exclusion statistics on thermal activation of quasiparticle pairs in the approximation of generalized ideal gas. The distribution function for thermally activated quasiparticles is found explicitly for the statistics matrix given by the composite fermion picture and the thermodynamic consequences are discussed analytically. In particular, at low temperatures, there is a quasielectron-quasihole duality in the description of the system between two adjacent magic fillings ν(m, p) ≡ m/(2pm+ 1) and ν(m+ 1, p). J un 1 99 7 Exclusonic Quasiparticles and Thermodynamics of Fractional Quantum Hall Liquids

Quasielectrons and quasiholes in the fractional quantum Hall liquids obey fractional (including nontrivial mutual) exclusion statistics. Their statistics matrix can be determined from several possible state-counting scheme, involving different assumptions on statistical correlations. Thermal activation of quasiparticle pairs and thermodynamic properties of the fractional quantum Hall liquids ne...

Characterization of fractional-quantum-Hall-effect quasiparticles

Composite fermions in a partially filled quasi-Landau level may be viewed as quasielectrons of the underlying fractional quantum Hall state, suggesting that a quasielectron is simply a dressed electron, as often is true in other interacting electron systems, and as a result has the same intrinsic charge and exchange statistics as an electron. This paper discusses how this result is reconciled w...

Quasiparticles do the twist

One of the most memorable lessons of an undergraduate course in quantum mechanics is that identical particles can have two types of “statistics.” An exchange of two identical bosons leaves the many-particle wave function unchanged, while an exchange of two identical fermions introduces a minus sign. The consequences of this minus sign are profound in all areas of physics. Moreover, it has long ...

Towards a Field Theory of Fractional Quantum Hall States

We present a Chern-Simons theory of the fractional quantum Hall effect in which flux attachment is followed by a transformation that effectively attaches the correlation holes. We extract the correlated wave functions, compute the drift and cyclotron currents (due to inhomogeneous density), exhibit the Read operator and operators that create quasiparticles and quasiholes. We show how the bare k...

Gapless layered three-dimensional fractional quantum Hall states

Using the parton construction, we build a three-dimensional 3D multilayer fractional quantum Hall state with average filling =1 /3 per layer that is qualitatively distinct from a stacking of weakly coupled Laughlin states. The state supports gapped charge e /3 fermionic quasiparticles that can propagate both within and between the layers, in contrast to the quasiparticles in a multilayer Laughl...
